Michigan Humane is seeking any information related to the body of a German Shepherd found tied to a fence and shot to death.
Michigan Humane’s cruelty investigations team discovered the dog’s body on May 16 behind the garage of a home on the 5200 block of Devonshire Rd on Detroit’s east side. The German Shepherd was found tied up with an electrical cord a few inches off the ground. The body showed several gunshot wounds and a bullet was recovered after examination.
“After talking with potential witnesses we learned that less than 10 days prior, witnesses heard a dog screaming and then gunshots from the area which the dog was found,” Michigan Humane investigator Sarah Schertel said in a statement.
An necropsy (animal autopsy) showed that the German Shepherd was still alive when it was tied to the fence and subsequently shot.
A reward in the amount of $2,500 is being offered for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for this crime. Michigan lawmakers recently passed HB 4333, which enforces harsher penalties to anyone convicted of animal cruelty. A person found guilty of first degree killing and/or torturing of an animal faces up to ten years in prison.
