Canine Sleepover Program

Specific dogs are available at our Detroit and Westland shelters to go on a sleepover. This gives the dogs an overnight break from the kennel to help them decompress. It also helps them get adopted by participants sharing photos and information from their experience with the dog outside of the shelter environment.

Come on into one of our locations during open adoption center hours and you will see which dogs are available for this program by looking for a Sleep Over sign on their kennel.

Once you find one you are interested in, you would alert the customer service staff. They will go over the program guidelines and that dog’s specific needs. We will supply you with everything you will need to care for the dog overnight and will schedule a specific return day/time.

If you do have another dog in the home that you would like to bring for a meet and greet, you are welcome to bring your dog along. Owned dogs are not allowed on the adoption floor, so we suggest bringing a second person with you, but if that is not possible, staff can assist.

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must sign foster agreement, waiver of liability, and confidentiality agreement.
  • Must follow policies, restrictions, and guidelines provided by staff at time of pick up.
  • Must return the dog at the scheduled time.
  • Pick-up and return must happen only on days when Michigan Humane is open.
  • Pick-up and return must happen at least one hour before closing time.
