Michigan Humane for Military

Michigan Humane recognizes the incredibly important role that pets play in our lives- they provide us with unconditional love, support and a connection to the world. When a companion animal can also help a veteran or someone that is active duty military in exchange for a loving home, everyone wins! As a ‘thank you’ to those that have served our country, we are proud to offer an exclusive program for adopters.

Michigan Humane for Military aims to connect companion animals in need of homes with veterans and active duty service personnel to create new families. The program includes the following:

  • Fee-waived adoptions on any pet, including kittens and puppies, for any qualified adopter
  • Michigan Humane adoption package includes pet sterilization, age-appropriate vaccines, deworming and more
  • Discounts on veterinary care for the first year, valid at all 3 Michigan Humane locations

To participate in the Michigan Humane for Military program, customers must bring the following at time of adoption:

  • Proof of honorable discharge
    • DD 214
    • DD 256
    • Veteran’s designation on state ID
  • Driver’s license (or State of Michigan ID card) with current address.
  • To ensure the best match when finding your new friend, Michigan Humane encourages you to bring all family members in to meet the animal(s) you are interested in. If you are selecting a dog or puppy for adoption and already have a dog at home, we encourage you to bring your resident dog along to meet the new friend as well!

The Michigan Humane for Military discount is available at off-site or special adoption events provided all adoption requirements are met. Check out our Facebook page for the most up-to-date listing!

The fee-waived adoption is non-transferable, and any adopted pets must reside with the veteran or active duty adopter.

Most adoptions can be processed same day so you and your new best friend can start your adventure together!

Questions about the program can be directed to our Animal Resource Center at 1-866-MHUMANE.
