Community Service

School Required Community Service
School required community service (Either a graduation requirement or as part of National Honor Society duties.)

If you are at least 14 years of age and need to complete non-court-ordered community service, but are unable to commit to a 4-month, 2-hour-a-week schedule, please contact the Michigan Humane Volunteer Department by e-mailing volunteerdepartment@michiganhumane.org.

Please note that short-term volunteers do not work directly with the animals and must be accompanied by an adult (age 25 years and older).

Court-Ordered Community Service

Community Service Volunteer Applications

Michigan Humane offers service opportunities for individuals over the age of 18 who have been ordered by the court to perform community service of 20 or more hours. Volunteer responsibilities may include distributing pet food, deep cleaning and general upkeep onsite at our shelters, or select positions at our events.

Shifts can be scheduled Monday – Sunday between 9 AM – 4 PM but could be limited dependent on our organization’s need. No more than 4 hours can be scheduled in a single day.

Please note: Failure to complete a Court-Ordered Community Service Application prior to volunteering will prevent an applicant from having hours validated by Michigan Humane to a court official.
