Marshmello and Bastille released the music video for their hit “Happier,” and we must warn you that someone will be cutting onions.

As Rolling Stone explains, Miranda Cosgrove stars as a young girl who is given a golden retriever puppy for her birthday. The iCarly star has a tough time adjusting through her adolescent years as she deals with bullies and insecurities about her looks. However, her dog is there to provide endless love and support.

Sadly the dog’s health declines as he ages. Cosgrove and her father in the video take her to the emergency vet but unfortunately there is nothing they can do. The family has to deal with the heartache of euthanizing their canine companion and let me tell you, that was hard to watch.

The video ends with the main character as an older woman with her own child’s birthday party happening. Good ol’ dad gives the same gift to his granddaughter that he did to his daughter, and the bond between girl and dog starts all over again.

The video has personal meaning for Marshmello.

“When Bastille sent me ‘Happier’ for the first time I was taken aback,” the producer and DJ said in a statement. “The amount of emotion that you could feel in the lyrics was crazy. As I listened to the song more and more it reminded me of so many things I’ve been through in my life. Toxic relationships, letting go of things I didn’t want to and just situations where happiness came with a price. Recently I lost my dog which was really hard for me. I wanted the video to embrace the pain that we feel losing someone close to us and the cycle of life. This is what made me happier.”
