Since 1877, the Michigan Humane Society (MHS) has been a safe haven for millions of abandoned and abused animals in southeast Michigan because of compassionate individuals who share our belief that they deserve a second-chance to be loved. One of the many ways that compassionate individuals can help MHS is by becoming a member of the MHS Legacy Society. The Legacy Society is a group of caring individuals who are dedicated to helping animals now and into the future by naming MHS in their will or living trust. By designating MHS in your estate plans, you create a lasting legacy that helps save so many animal lives.

Jenny and Peter K. have been lifelong animal lovers and MHS supporters for over twenty-four years, as well as Legacy Society members for over six years. When asked what inspired them to become a part of the Legacy Society, they replied, “Pablo Picasso once said, ‘The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.’ We couldn’t agree more. Over the past 40 years, we have adopted numerous four-legged family members from the Michigan Humane Society and treasured every one of them, including the two that we have now. Now, as we reach retirement, we are able to support MHS with our time as volunteers (and MHS foster parents) and as members of the Legacy Society, knowing that our financial contributions to animal welfare in metro Detroit will continue even after we are gone.”

The Michigan Humane Society is thankful to Jenny, Peter and our many devoted supporters who have not only found their gift, but also found purpose in giving it to the countless homeless and neglected animals that will get a second chance at life, love, and a forever family.
