Lost a Pet

When your pet runs away from home, it can be a terrifying experience for the both of you. However, following these tips as soon as you notice your dog or cat is missing can help you reunite with your family member as quickly as possible.

Contact local animal shelters and animal control agencies

Reach out to the animal shelters and animal control agencies in and near the city where your pet was last seen using the database below. Be as detailed as possible when describing your pet, including any unique identifiers. Visit a shelter’s stray hold area if they have any animals matching your pet’s description.

Post your lost pet on local online forums and groups

Report your pet missing in local neighborhood Facebook groups and websites like reddit and Craigslist. Post a photo of your pet and again be as detailed as possible. Make your Facebook post sharable so others can spread the word. You can also try the websites below:

Search the neighborhood

If you lost your pet near your home, search around your neighborhood. Post flyers in the area as well as local businesses if they allow it. Ask your neighbors to keep an eye out for your pet. Your local mail carrier is also a great resource to help find your pet.

Don’t lose hope

As excruciating as it is, sometimes it takes a while for your pet to be found. Families have been reunited after months, and in some cases years, of separation.

To increase the chances of your pet being found, make sure they’re always wearing an ID tag on their collar. We also recommend that you microchip your pet if they’re not already.
