For the 28th consecutive year in a row, the American Kennel Club has named the Labrador Retriever the most popular dog breed.

The AKC announced the list on Wednesday, which just about mirrored the prior year’s rankings. The German Shepherd was the runner-up, followed by the golden retriever, French bulldog, bulldog, beagle, poodle, rottweiler, German shorthaired pointer and Yorkshire terrier in that order.

“The Labrador retriever shows no signs of giving up the top spot anytime soon,” AKC Executive Secretary Gina DiNardo said in a statement (h/t People).  “Labs make wonderful companions for a wide variety of people, and for good reason.  The breed is very intelligent, friendly and great with children.  Attention must be paid to the German Shorthaired Pointer, however!  This jack of all trades in the pointer world has slowly but steadily risen in popularity over the years.  People continue to fall in love with its versatility, extreme intelligence and willingness to please.”

As someone who has had both a Labrador Retriever and a German Shepherd puppy in my house, I have no arguments with this list.

However, ALL DOG BREEDS ARE GOOD DOGS.
