A West Michigan family spending time on their boat in Lake Michigan were surprised to find a dog swimming nearby.
As WOOD TV reports, Jeannie Wilcox and her family were traveling on their boat from Grand Haven to Frankfort last Friday when she noticed the canine in the water.
“I see this red animal in the lake and I started screaming, ‘Dog in the water!’” Wilcox told WOOD TV. “We brought her up on our swim platform really easily. We dried her off. She was obviously scared and cold.”
Wilcox believes the dog was swimming four miles away from the shoreline for up to an hour. They took the dog to have her microchip scanned, which led to a nice reunion with the dog’s family.
“I just hope that if this was my dog, somebody would do the same for me,” Wilcox said. “I would just be very grateful, happy because I know how rough Lake Michigan can be.”
