Trinket's Rescue

Badly matted dog rescued from abandoned house

September 26, 2016

The little dog had obviously been neglected for a very long time. She was covered in heavy matting and locked in a crate in an abandoned house.

There was no roof on the house, so she was exposed to the elements and was sitting in a puddle when we found her. Vines had started growing through the bars of the crate, showing just how long she had been there.

Our rescue driver called to alert our veterinary staff that she would be bringing in a dog that needed immediate attention. Before her mats were shaved off, the little dog weighed six pounds. After we removed all the mats, filth and maggots, she weighed only four pounds.

We named her Trinket, and after she was cleaned up, we discovered she had a birth defect, and one of her legs was shorter than the others. It doesn’t slow her down though – she gets around just fine.

After Trinket was cleaned up and given a clean bill of health, she went up for adoption, where she found a new family who loves her.

Rescues like Trinket are made possible by people like you. Please donate today.
