Volunteers are a critical part of our organization. They help us uphold our mission and contribute to improving human and animal lives. Anyone can make a difference and we invite you to join us as we build a more humane community for all.

You can choose to serve onsite at one of our shelters by making enrichment, washing dishes or laundry, cleaning kennels alongside our animal care staff, or spending quality time with our animals. Other opportunities include serving the community at offsite events, distributing food through our pet pantry, or a variety of other special tasks that support our organization. Volunteer trainings and shifts are available Monday – Sunday so everyone can find something that works for them.

Looking to volunteer without the commitment? Explore our One-Time Volunteering opportunities.

*People between 14 and 18 can only volunteer with a parent or guardian.

Group Opportunities

Michigan Humane welcomes volunteers to serve together while having fun supporting pets and people in our community. Come spend a morning with us in the shelter cleaning kennels, prepping food dishes, washing laundry, organizing donations, making enrichment, and brightening the days of our animals. Or choose to be a caring neighbor by passing out pet food on our pantry days or delivering directly to homes which keeps loving families together and pets out of shelters. Interested in getting your friends, coworkers, or team involved? Fill out our group application so we can discuss your volunteer experience at Michigan Humane!

This opportunity is best suited for:

  • Individuals 18 years and up
  • Groups of 4-10 individuals (multiple days can be scheduled for larger groups)
  • Those with availability for 2-4 hours on weekday mornings (flexibility may be available for pet food deliveries)
