Kind Kids Honor Roll
Our thanks to all the kids who have helped make a difference in the lives of homeless animals!

Campers from the Plymouth-Canton Kids' Time Summer Camp
Campers from the Plymouth-Canton Kids' Time Summer Camp, ages 5-14, created 49 kitty forts for the animals at the MHS Berman Center for Animal Care.

Kind Kids Honor Roll
Eight-year-old Katie Baxter is a very special friend to the animals. She spent her summer collecting coins for the Michigan Humane Society, raising over $100!  This is not her first act of kindness to MHS furry friends.  Last winter, Katie had a birthday party where instead of presents for herself, she asked family and friends to bring donations and pet supplies for MHS animals.  Also, Katie and a friend once saved a rabbit off the side of the road and brought it to safety.  Katie has a big heart for all creatures.  Her family includes two gerbils, two guinea pigs, a fish, a leopard gecko and her dog Sam who is her very best friend.  Thank you so much Katie for your generosity to the animals cared for by MHS!

Seaholm 5th Hour
Students from Birmingham Seaholm High School raised $807 for the Michigan Humane Society through a variety of fundraisers, starting with an MHS Dog Bank in the “Maple Tree” school store.  Teacher Connie Irby, who has supervisory responsibility for the store, has a special place in her heart for the MHS Rochester Hills adoption center, where she adopted a springer spaniel and has donated a car to benefit the facility.  She asked for a second Dog Bank and instituted a competition to raise money between the two classes of students staffing the store.  The students also had bake sales, popcorn sales and “cruised” the cafeteria during the lunch hour asking for donations.

Troop 850
Brownie Troop #850 donated supplies to help the animals in MHS' care.

Troop 2863
Junior Girl Scout Troop 2863, made up of fourth graders in Bloomfield Hills, decorated "Kitty Forts" at their January 9 meeting. The finished forts, made from cardboard boxes, were then donated to the Michigan Humane Society Berman Center for animal Care, in Westland. Cats and kittens like to sleep and hide in the boxes, which are placed in the shelter's cages. When a cat is adopted, the fort is sent along to provide something comforting and familiar during the new pet's transition. Along with the forts, the girls collected and donated cardboard tubes for chewing and recreational use by the shelter's other animals.
