OFFSITE ADOPTION MANAGER
Location: Westland
The Michigan Humane Society (MHS) has an immediate full-time opening for an Offsite Adoption Manager (OAM) at our Berman Center for Animal Care in Westland.  This position will manage all aspects of the Offsite Adoption Program including, but not limited to: identifying and forming strategic collaborations with adoption partners, including individuals, businesses, and organizations, to increase permanent placement of MHS adoptable animals; establishing and overseeing animal selection, transfer, care, and placement with adoption partners; working collaboratively with the Foster Program Coordinator to enable home-based adoptions from MHS foster homes; preparing monthly reports; and customer service.  They must also work well with MHS staff and volunteers; design and implement volunteer trainings; maintain an up-to-date database of Offsite Adoption Program volunteers; and work with MHS’ marketing staff to effectively market offsite adoption venues.

For the OAM position, a Bachelor’s degree is preferred along with a background in the animal health care field.  Also, experience with shelter animals, placement groups, and animal related businesses; volunteer management; budget management; meticulous recordkeeping skills; strong organizational skills; self-motivation; and reliability are strongly preferred.  The position requires a proven track record of (5) five years of coordination/administrative experience in a related field; a positive attitude; excellent interpersonal skills; a strong computer background, especially Word and Excel; thorough attention to detail; demonstrated leadership; and the ability to provide ongoing training with MHS staff.  The OAM must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel within the MHS service area.  The schedule will be flexible and include weekdays, evenings, and weekends.

VETERINARY CLINIC RECEPTIONIST
Location: Rochester Hills
The Rochester Hills Center for Animal Care veterinary clinic has an immediate part-time (20 hours per week) opening for a Clinic Receptionist.  The ideal candidate must possess strong public relations and customer service skills, basic computer knowledge, and the ability to work in a fast-paced office.  Candidate must maintain a professional and positive attitude and uphold the principles and beliefs of the organization at all times, focus on solving conflicts, maintain confidentiality, listen to customers without interruption, and be able to keep emotions under control.

Candidate must be able to write clearly and informatively, read and interpret standard operating procedures and protocols, be able to follow instructions, respond to management direction, and take responsibility for own actions.  They must also be able to observe safety and security procedures as well as use equipment and materials properly.  Candidate must have a High School diploma, and animal experience is strongly preferred.  Schedule will be flexible and will include weekends and evenings.

SHELTER SUPERVISOR
Location: Westland
The Michigan Humane Society’s Berman Center for Animal Care has an immediate opening for a Shelter Supervisor.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: the effective and efficient operation of the adoption center; supervise/provide direction to all adoption center staff; provide quality animal care, excellent customer service and a positive work environment.  This position may report directly to the Shelter Manager and Facility Director, and the Staff Supervisor will supervise/manage the Westland facility in the absence of the Shelter Manager.  This is a full time (minimum 40 hours a week) position, and the flexible schedule will include evenings and weekends.

The ideal candidate must have a professional and positive attitude; excellent interpersonal skills; strong verbal and written communication skills; the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously; and strong organizational and prioritizing skills.  They must uphold the principles and beliefs of the organization at all times; focus on solving conflicts; maintain confidentiality; listen to customers without interruption; be able to keep emotions under control; write clearly and informatively; and read and interpret standard operating procedures and protocols.  Candidates must have a High School diploma as well as six months to two years of related experience and/or training.  Previous supervisory experience is required.

CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE/ANIMAL CARE TECHNICIAN
Location: Westland
The Michigan Humane Society (MHS) has immediate openings for full-time and part-time Customer Service Representatives/Animal Care Technicians (CSR/ACT) at our Berman Center for Animal Care in Westland.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: providing general information and support to the public on the phone and in person as well as providing support to the adoption area by performing some of the following duties:  assisting customers with preliminary adoption paperwork and greeting customers as they enter the facility and directing them to appropriate areas, while explaining procedure and protocols.  Also, providing direct care and maintenance for all animals in the adoption center, including feeding, general husbandry and cleaning of the kennels, Shoreline cages, and all adoption center areas.  Starting salary is $8.50 per hour.  Schedule will be flexible and will include weekends and evenings.

The CSR/ACT must maintain a professional and positive attitude and uphold the principles and beliefs of the organization at all times; focus on solving conflicts; maintain confidentiality; listen to customers without interruption; keep emotions under control; write clearly and informatively; read and interpret standard operating procedures and protocols; follow instructions; respond to management direction; take responsibility for own actions; observe safety and security procedures; and use equipment and materials properly.

Candidates must have a High School diploma; six to nine months of excellent customer service experience is also required.  Candidate must be able to perform professionally in a pressure-filled environment; feed and water animals according to schedules and established protocol; clean and disinfect kennels, cages, and yard areas; maintain facility grounds to ensure all fecal matter and debris is removed; observe animals for signs of illness and advise proper personnel accordingly; hold animals during euthanasia process; bathe animals in accordance with established guidelines; exercise animals regularly to minimize the adoption center environment stress; and complete laundry and dish washing timely and effectively.

The Michigan Humane Society has immediate full, part-time, and contingent openings for experienced veterinary technicians and assistants.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to: outpatient services, hospitalized patient care, as well as anesthetist and surgical assistant roles.  Positions will have a flexible schedule and hours, and will include evenings and weekends.  Individuals must maintain a professional, positive attitude, and uphold the principles and beliefs of the organization at all times.

VETERINARIAN 
Locations: Detroit, Rochester Hills and Westland
The Michigan Humane Society is looking for an energetic individual to join our family at our Rochester Hills Veterinary clinic.  Our varied and busy caseload provides experienced veterinarians, as well as new graduates, with the opportunity to enhance and expand their medical and surgical skills.  The open position is for an associate full-time small animal veterinarian to work 40 hours per week, flexible schedule, handling a variety of external clientele as well as in-shelter animals.  Good interpersonal skills and a positive attitude are necessary.  We are willing to train, but would prefer one-to-two years experience in an office setting.  The MHS offers a competitive wage and benefits package, including:  medical & dental insurance, paid time off, life and long & short-term disability insurance, 403(b) Thrift Plan, discounts for retail purchases and other services, professional liability insurance, continuing education allowance and generous vacation allowance and more.
