VETERINARY CLINIC RECEPTIONIST Location: Detroit The Detroit Center for Animal Care Veterinary clinic has an immediate full-time opening for a clinic receptionist. The ideal candidate must possess strong public relations and customer service skills, basic computer knowledge and the ability to work in a fast-paced office. Candidate must maintain a professional and positive attitude and uphold the principles and beliefs of the organization at all times; must focus on solving conflicts; maintain confidentiality; listen to customers without interruption; and be able to keep emotions under control.
Candidate must be able to write clearly and informatively; read and interpret standard operating procedures and protocols; be able to follow instructions, respond to management direction, and take responsibility for own actions. Must be able to observe safety and security procedures, and use equipment and materials properly. Candidate must have a High School diploma; and, animal experience is strongly preferred. Schedule will be flexible and will include weekends and evenings.

COURIER Location: Detroit The Michigan Humane Society has an immediate opening for a part-time Courier at the Warehouse in Detroit (6175 Trumbull). This position will facilitate the delivery of inter-departmental mail and supplies to all locations; assist with the pick up and transportation of donated items; assist with the transport of animals as needed, and participate in Special Events, as needed. Candidate must have a good driving record; be able to lift at least 70 pounds; and Hi-Lo operational experience is preferred. Candidate must have a high school diploma, plus one to two years of related experience preferred. Position is part-time (32 hours weekly), Monday through Friday, and schedule will need to be flexible.

STAFF SUPERVISOR Location: Westland The Berman Center for Animal Care Adoption Center has an immediate opening for a full-time Staff Supervisor. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: the effective and efficient operation of the shelter, providing quality animal care and excellent client service, supervising and providing guidance and direction to all shelter staff. This position may report directly to the Associate Manager or Shelter Manager; the Staff Supervisor will supervise/manage the Facility in the absence of either Manager. The ideal candidate must have a professional and positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, and strong organizational and prioritizing skills.

CUSTOMER SERVICE REP./ANIMAL CARE TECHNICIAN Locations: Detroit and Westland The Michigan Humane Society has immediate openings for part and full-time Customer Service Representative/Animal Care Technician’s (CSR/ACT) at our Detroit and Westland facilities. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: providing general information and support to the public on the phone and in person, and also providing support to the Adoption area by performing some of the following duties: assisting customers with preliminary adoption paperwork; greeting customers as they enter the facility and directing them to appropriate areas, while explaining procedure and protocols. Also, providing direct care and maintenance for all animals in the shelter, including feeding, general husbandry and cleaning of the kennels, Shoreline cages, and all shelter areas.
The CSR/ACT must maintain a professional and positive attitude and uphold the principles and beliefs of the organization at all times; must focus on solving conflicts, maintain confidentiality, listen to customers without interruption, and be able to keep emotions under control. Must be able to write clearly and informatively; read and interpret standard operating procedures and protocols; be able to follow instructions, respond to management direction, and take responsibility for own actions. Candidates must have a High School diploma; six to nine months of excellent customer service experience is required. Candidate must be able to perform professionally in a pressure-filled environment. Will also feed and water animals according to schedules and established protocol; cleans and disinfects kennels, cages, and yard areas. Maintains grounds of facility to ensure all fecal matter is removed as well as any debris. Observes animals for signs of illness and advises proper personnel accordingly; holds animals during euthanasia process; bathes animals in accordance with established guidelines; exercises animals regularly to minimize the shelter environment stress; and, completes laundry and dish washing timely and effectively. Starting salary is between $8.50 to $8.75 per hour.

CID FIELD AGENT-INVESTIGATOR Location: Detroit The Cruelty Investigation Department of the Michigan Humane Society is looking for a full-time (40 hours) applicant for the position of CID Field Agent - Investigator. (Our intent is that the right candidate will train and ultimately become a CID investigator, after meeting specific performance related criteria.)
As a Field Agent, this individual will be part of a team that responds to complaints called into the Cruelty Investigation Department regarding animal cruelty/neglect. The successful applicant must have the following attributes: minimum high school diploma; very enthusiastic with a strong desire to learn; excellent animal handling skills; basic knowledge of dog breeds and characteristics; and, excellent verbal and writing abilities. The applicant must also have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to adjust to various situations quickly to establish rapport and control of a situation without escalating it unnecessarily; realize and accept that there may be occasions when you will be alone in the field on a call. High on the list of requirements is compassion for people and a love of animals; being able and willing to professionally and appropriately represent the Michigan Humane Society with the media or in public settings and functions; physically able to lift large, heavy objects up to 70 lbs; climb and jump, as well as crawl in cramped spaces.

The Michigan Humane Society (MHS) is a private, nonprofit organization which cares for over 100,000 animals each year at its three metro Detroit adoption and veterinary centers in Detroit, Rochester Hills and at its state-of-the-art Berman Center for Animal Care in Westland. VETERINARIAN Locations: Detroit, Rochester Hills and Westland The Michigan Humane Society is looking for an energetic individual to join our family at our Rochester Hills Veterinary clinic. Our varied and busy caseload provides experienced veterinarians, as well as new graduates, with the opportunity to enhance and expand their medical and surgical skills. The open position is for an associate full-time small animal veterinarian to work 40 hours per week, flexible schedule, handling a variety of external clientele as well as in-shelter animals. Good interpersonal skills and a positive attitude are necessary. We are willing to train, but would prefer one-to-two years experience in an office setting.
