VETERINARY ASSISTANT
Location: Rochester Hills
The Michigan Humane Society (MHS) has an immediate full-time opening (40 hours per week) for an experienced Veterinary Assistant at the Rochester Hills Center for Animal Care veterinary clinic.  The Veterinary Assistant will provide support for the Veterinary Technicians and Veterinarians in a variety of animal health care and animal husbandry duties including examination, treatment, and surgery.  Schedule will be flexible and include evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: assisting with restraint and treatment of animals; administering vaccines, subcutaneous fluids, and injections under veterinary supervision; administering medications under veterinary supervision; obtaining lab specimens; performing routine laboratory duties; cleaning including sanitizing cages and equipment; caring for surgery/hospitalized animals; filling prescriptions; accurately documenting information in medical records; and completing Receptionist duties as needed.

The ideal candidate will have a High School diploma or GED; experience in a previous veterinary clinical setting is preferred.  Also, basic computer skills are required, and knowledge of Cornerstone software is a plus.  Individuals must maintain a professional and positive attitude, remain calm in high pressure situations, follow directions, have good communication skills, and uphold the principles and beliefs of the organization at all times.

VETERINARY CLINIC RECEPTIONIST
Location: Rochester Hills
The Rochester Hills Center for Animal Care veterinary clinic has an immediate full-time opening for a Clinic Receptionist.  The ideal candidate must possess strong public relations and customer service skills, basic computer knowledge, and the ability to work in a fast-paced office.  Candidate must maintain a professional and positive attitude and uphold the principles and beliefs of the organization at all times, focus on solving conflicts, maintain confidentiality, listen to customers without interruption, and be able to keep emotions under control.

Candidate must be able to write clearly and informatively, read and interpret standard operating procedures and protocols, be able to follow instructions, respond to management direction, and take responsibility for own actions.  They must also be able to observe safety and security procedures as well as use equipment and materials properly.  Candidate must have a High School diploma, and animal experience is strongly preferred.  Schedule will be flexible and will include weekends and evenings.

OFFSITE ADOPTION OUTREACH ASSISTANT
Location: Westland
The Michigan Humane Society (MHS) has 2 immediate part-time openings (20 hours per week) for an Offsite Adoption Outreach Assistant.  This position will report directly to the Offsite Adoption Manager and indirectly to the Director of Animal Welfare; the position will also be working collaboratively with the Foster Program Coordinator.  The Offsite Adoption Outreach Assistant will be assisting the Offsite Adoption Program with tasks including, but not limited to: delivering animals to MHS’ offsite adoption centers; assisting at weekend offsite adoption events; communicating in a professional manner with the offsite adoption center host stores; and accurately updating paperwork for every transferred animal.   

The preferred candidates must have a high school diploma or GED; a college degree is preferred. They must have excellent customer service skills; experience with companion animals in a shelter, placement group, veterinary clinic, or animal related business is preferred.  They must also have the ability to take direction and work consistently with a positive attitude; meticulous recordkeeping skills and attention to detail; strong organizational skills including self-motivation and reliability; and excellent verbal and written skills.

They must have the ability to interact in a professional, positive, and articulate manner with a wide audience, including diverse clientele, the general public, collaborative partners, and MHS staff and volunteers as well as uphold the principles and beliefs of the organization at all times.  Candidates must be able to work a flexible schedule (daytime, evenings, and weekends).  Reliable transportation, a valid State of Michigan driver’s license, and a great driving record are musts as this position requires frequent travel.

EVALUATOR
Location: Detroit
The Detroit Center for Animal Care has an immediate full-time opening   (40 hours per week) for an Animal Evaluator.  Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to: conducting medical and behavioral evaluations of animals; identifying, treating, and recording symptoms of common illnesses; accurately preparing and dispensing medications; emergency treatment of sick/injured animals; accurately processing paperwork including documentation for care of animals being held for cruelty investigations; and euthanizing animals. 

Strong attention to detail and the ability to handle all animals in a safe, humane, and compassionate manner are essential.  Decision making abilities and multitasking aptitude a must. The ideal candidate will have a professional and positive attitude and will enjoy working in a team focused environment.  Prior animal behavior/medical experience is a plus.  A High School diploma or GED and at least 6 months to one (l) year of prior animal handling are required.  The candidate must also be Euthanasia Certified or in the process of certification and be able to lift at least 50 pounds.  The schedule for this position is five days a week (to be determined) and will include evenings and weekends.

CUSTOMER SERVICE REP./ANIMAL CARE TECHNICIAN
Location: Rochester Hills
The Rochester Hills Center for Animal Care has openings for a full-time Customer Service Representative/Animal Care Technician’s (CSR/ACT).  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: providing general information and support to the public on the phone and in person, and also providing support to the Adoption area by performing some of the following duties:  assisting customers with preliminary adoption paperwork; greeting customers as they enter the facility and directing them to appropriate areas, while explaining procedure and protocols.  Also, providing direct care and maintenance for all animals in the shelter, including feeding, general husbandry and cleaning of the kennels, Shoreline cages, and all shelter areas.

The CSR/ACT must maintain a professional and positive attitude and uphold the principles and beliefs of the organization at all times; must focus on solving conflicts, maintain confidentiality, listen to customers without interruption, and be able to keep emotions under control.  Must be able to write clearly and informatively; read and interpret standard operating procedures and protocols; be able to follow instructions, respond to management direction, and take responsibility for own actions.  Must be able to observe safety and security procedures, and use equipment and materials properly.

Candidates must have a High School diploma or GED; and, one to three months related experience and/or training is a plus.  The candidate will also feed and water animals according to schedules and established protocol;   cleans and disinfects kennels, cages, and yard areas.  Maintains grounds of facility to ensure all fecal matter is removed as well as any debris.  Observes animals for signs of illness and advises proper personnel accordingly; holds animals during euthanasia process; bathes animals in accordance with established guidelines; exercises animals regularly to minimize the shelter environment stress; and, completes laundry and dish washing timely and effectively.

SPECIAL PROJECT - RECRUITMENT MANAGER
Location: Bingham Farms
The Michigan Humane Society has a full time opening for a Recruitment Manager.  This is a temporary position with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.   We are looking for a “Project Person”, preferably with strong sales, public relations, and promotions experience, to recruit team leaders and participants for the Mega March for Animals, a large fundraising walk.  This individual will be responsible for preparing the target list for additional recruiters; the Recruitment Manager will recruit 4 (four) times the number of team leaders as other designated recruiters; this position will share overall management and production of the event; will manage all recruiters; and will focus on participant recruitment.  Other responsibilities include:  Cold Calling - Telephone outreach to recruit new corporate team leaders and additional outreach to retain past event participants; cultivate relationships with prospective team leaders to recruit teams and raise funds; meticulously track and monitor participants using database; and, research potential companies and markets using the internet, etc... 

The ideal candidate will be responsible for recruitment of participants for this large-scale  special-event outreach project; should have proven success in sales/marketing and/ or new business cultivation; should be project oriented, hard-working, dynamic, energetic, detail-oriented with demonstrated time management and multi-tasking ability; must possess excellent verbal and written skills, including telephone prospecting and team-building; and must demonstrate a proven ability to motivate and lead. Helpful requirements would include: relationship-management, fundraising, “cause” marketing, and event planning.  This is a temporary, full-time, salaried position; some benefits available; 40 hours weekly, with some flexibility in schedule (to discuss at interview).  No phone calls, faxes, or third parties will be considered.

Candidates must have a High School diploma; six to nine months of excellent customer service experience is required.  Candidate must be able to perform professionally in a pressure-filled environment.  Will also feed and water animals according to schedules and established protocol; cleans and disinfects kennels, cages, and yard areas.  Maintains grounds of facility to ensure all fecal matter is removed as well as any debris.  Observes animals for signs of illness and advises proper personnel accordingly; holds animals during euthanasia process; bathes animals in accordance with established guidelines; exercises animals regularly to minimize the shelter environment stress; and, completes laundry and dish washing timely and effectively.  Starting salary is between $8.50 to $8.75 per hour.
