Help MHS Head Off a Cat-astrophe
According to the calendar, Summer is in full swing, but this time of year is the middle of peak cat season, when shelters and rescues across the country are bursting at the seams with unwanted cats and litters of kittens. Believe it or not, kittens are droopped off by the box full to the Michigan Humane Society every day. It is difficult to find homes for each and every kitten. Please help MHS prevent a cat crisis!
- Adopt a cat or kitten! Cats make great pets: They are affectionate, loving, clean companions, and are often easier to care for than dogs. Take advantage of "Purrfect in Pairs" Cat Adoption Program. For a limited time when you adopt a feline friend, you can adopt a second cat or kitten with no additional adoption fee!
- If your pet is not yet spayed or neutered, please make a veterinary appointment immediately and keep your male or female cat inside at ALL times to ensure he/she does not breed in the meantime. View MHS current low-cost sterilization programs.
- If you’ve found a stray, be sure you’re bringing the animal to the appropriate shelter, which is often the local or county animal control. This will help ensure the best possible chance the stray pet will be reclaimed by his/her worried family.
- Considering surrendering your cat due to behavior issues? Many troubling behaviors are easily corrected - contact MHS for free assistance!
- If you have no choice but to relinquish your pet, first try rehoming him/her with a relative or trusted friend or acquaintance.
- Support MHS programs to end animal homelessness through sterilization, adoption and education.
