Detroit, Mich. - Malnourished and dehydrated, after a seven-day trip on a train from Mexico, Boxcar Bonnie, a 10-to-12-week-old shepherd mix pup, arrived in Detroit on June 20. Tied up and left in a boxcar without any food or water, the resilient pup survived the trip, finding herself in Detroit. Since her arrival, she’s touched the hearts of many metro Detroiters - two in particular!

Since her arrival in Michigan, Boxcar Bonnie spent some time resting and recuperating in a foster home. She has progressed well and demonstrated her strength, with quite an appetite and a sweet demeanor!

And, finally, all rested up, it was time for Bonnie to find her new forever home! She began interviewing potential adopters in mid August, and found her new forever home with Barbara and Rob. She is doing exceptionally well - and has adjusted nicely to her new home! She loves playing in the grass, with her toys, running around the house, and, most of all, with her new sister Coco as well. Everyone is getting along well and all are happy to have Bonnie around!

Bonnie, and the Michigan Humane Society, would like to thank everyone who reached out to Bonnie. The Michigan Humane Society cares for many animals, just like Bonnie, and without your generous support, the wonderful folks at MHS wouldn’t be able to do what they do each day.

Thank you to everyone - Bonnie surely is thankful for all of you!

Upon arriving at MHS, first priority was immediate medical attention and treatment for dehydration.  MHS will also provide Boxcar Bonnie with veterinary treatment, including vaccinations and a period of quarantine in a foster home.  Boxcar Bonnie has progressed well and demonstrated her strength! She has quite an appetite and has quite a sweet demeanor!

Bonnie’s full rehabilitation may take a little time, and over the coming weeks, Bonnie will spend some time in foster care to get a little extra TLC and R&R, and when the time is right, she’ll be interviewing for a new loving, forever family.

For more information about Boxcar Bonnie or to make a donation toward her care, please call 1-866-MHUMANE, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to  5 p.m., or click here to donate.

In the event that the funds raised exceed the cost of Boxcar Bonnie’s medical treatment and care, any additional donations will help MHS provide life-saving medical services to other animals.  Thank you for opening your heart to the most needy of animals.
