Nice to Meet You!

Puppies usually learn to love their families very quickly.  For many pups, that “circle of love” extends to every human they come in contact with.  If you live with a happy-go-lucky, love everyone, party animal good for you!

If, though, your pup is a bit more on the reserved side, help him learn that visitors are very welcome.  Grab some little ham cubes (or a snack that’s super good to your pup) and have your other family members dress in strange clothing sun glasses, big hats, oversized coats, etc..  Have them ring the door bell while you start feeding the ham cubes.  Let the person in (keep feeding the ham!).  If the pup approaches, have the person bend down to gently pet.  If the pup doesn’t approach, don’t force him.  Just feed ham cubes wherever the pup is comfortable sitting.

When the person leaves, stop feeding the ham cubes.  Go slowly and don’t force your pup into anything he’s not ready for.  Just keep those ham cubes coming teach your puppy that when visitors come, GREAT things happen!
