Help Animals Left Outside in the Summer Heat Have you ever witnessed a dog suffering from the heat? When the Michigan Humane Society Cruelty Investigation and Rescue teams receive a call and rush to the aid of abused or neglected animals, many times their lives are hanging by a thread. In addition to those animals who are the victims of intentional cruelty, shocking neglect, heartless abandonment, or injury as they try to survive on the streets, the hot weather has left even more animals in desperate situations. Today, the MHS Cruelty Investigation and Emergency Rescue teams are out rescuing animals. But we also need to be there tomorrow, and not only do we need to reach more animals in need, the costs to operate these teams are rising.  But the need doesn’t end there.  Each week, as we rescue dozens of dogs, cats and other sick or injured animals and rush them to MHS, our veterinary team takes over, providing immediate life-saving treatment, and setting forth on a treatment and rehabilitation plan.  Often, the long-term care expenses for treatable animals are extensive.  We need to keep our teams operating in order to reach animals in need before it’s too late.
