Maya's Rescue Stuck in an air vent, dog slowly starved
“I’m watching this dog and I haven’t been feeding it. Now she’s stuck in the air vent in my house. Come pick her up.”
MHS rescue personnel rushed to the house, only to find a shocking sight: a female shepherd mix dog, dreadfully emaciated, peeking out from an air vent she had fallen into. Covered in dirt and insulation, she lacked the strength to get out of the vent. Instead of helping her get out, the caller had thrown a blanket into the vent, but not any food.
When we pulled her out and got her back to the MHS Detroit Center for Animal Care, we found out that she was half of her expected body weight. You could see every rib, her entire hip bone – everything. It was an absolutely appalling case of neglect, and weeks later, she still isn’t out of the woods.
You can help Maya and animals like her.
