Puppies Rescued from Under Abandoned Home Scrounging for food in the dirt and concrete under a broken-down porch in Detroit
It’s no way to live, seeking out warmth, food and shelter underneath the shell of an abandoned house. Yet for seven adorable puppies, this was how they spent their first weeks of life, scrounging for food in the dirt and concrete under a broken-down porch in Detroit. What’s worse, by the time we found out about them, their mother was nowhere to be found. Without her and with the temperatures dropping, it looked bleak for these chow/shepherd mixes, until someone called the Michigan Humane Society.

The MHS rescue team swung into action, and within minutes, rescue driver Myron was on the scene. The puppies were playing happily in the yard, but retreated back underneath the porch once Myron grabbed the first puppy, which meant that he needed to head underneath the porch himself to grab them.
“It was actually pretty difficult with the space I had to work within, because it was pretty tight under there,” said Myron.
After a few minutes digging around underneath the porch, Myron had wrangled up all of the puppies, who were immediately taken back to the MHS Detroit Center for Animal Care to be examined by a veterinarian. Happily, the puppies were none the worse the wear for their ordeal, other than the fact that they all really needed a bath!
Stories like this happen all the time here at the Michigan Humane Society, but it’s only possible because of your support. Please give today.
