DETROIT – Two kittens are safe and sound today following a four-day, 1,128 mile journey that ended in Detroit earlier this week. The two feline stowaways made the journey in the bed of a hazardous materials truck carrying flammable chemicals that departed Louisiana this past weekend. Upon arriving in Detroit, Bonnie and Clyde were picked up by the Michigan Humane Society (MHS) Rescue team and immediately transported to the MHS Detroit Center for Animal Care.

Working with the Department of Waste Management, MHS staff thoroughly cleaned and decontaminated the pair of any potential toxins. The two were then examined by MHS veterinarians to determine if they had suffered any long-term effects from their journey. Happily, the prognosis for both is excellent. The kittens will continue to be observed and receive excellent care with MHS for at least the next several days and then made available for adoption as soon as possible.

Bonnie is six-week-old brown female tabby cat that weighs 2 pounds, while Clyde is a six-week old black male kitten that weighs 1.5 pounds. Both like being handled and are very friendly.  Both Bonnie and Clyde would love to continue to have more adventures together and asked us to remind their potential adopters of the significant benefits in having a two cat household; not to mention MHS’ special adoption deal when adopting two friendly felines.
