MHS Offering Low-Cost Cat Adoptions at Three PetSmart Locations Rochester Hills, Roseville and Taylor, Michigan
As part of an ongoing campaign to address feline homelessness in southeast Michigan and help ensure that every adoptable cat finds a loving home during the “peak” cat season, the Michigan Humane Society (MHS) is offering low-cost cat adoptions, for a limited time, at the following PetSmart partner locations:
For a limited time, cats ages four months and older are available at these PetSmart locations for a reduced adoption fee of $30. Each store houses 8 to 14 adoptable cats and kittens at a time who are ready to go home with their new families that day, having already been spayed or neutered, brought up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipped and tested for feline leukemia. The adoption process at the PetSmart partner locations mirrors that at MHS’ three adoption centers, and can take place any time during regular store hours, seven days a week.
The PetSmart partner locations primarily house felines four months of age and older, though younger kittens may be available as well. The MHS adoption fee for kittens under four months of age is $100 and includes the same valuable adoption package.
Benefits of the off-site cat adoption program include making MHS adoptable cats available in more communities, and freeing up space at MHS’ adoption centers and foster homes - space that is increasingly important during these warm summer months as many shelters throughout the country are overflowing with cats and litters of kittens. Cats breed at an exceptionally high rate during the spring and summer, making it difficult to find homes for all of them. In addition, while cats make excellent pets - they are affectionate, loving, clean and generally easy to care for - they are often undervalued as potential companions and family members.
